Mutts dogs

Here are some of the dogs available for rehoming at Mutts in Distress. Please be aware that we cannot be sure how well any of the dogs will get on with any cats or other animals you may have at home.

These dogs are featured here because none of them were wearing ID discs when picked up and when scanned, none were microchipped. Look after your pet and get him microchipped – that way he will be returned to you if he strays. Dogs must wear ID tags by law. Ask at reception for disc engraving done while you wait and microchipping by appointment.

We have new dogs arriving at the centre every day and so the most recent arrivals may not feature on this page for a few days. Please contact us if you’d like more up to date information.

Please – think carefully when deciding to rehome a dog. Dogs are being let down by people who agree to take them but then change their minds. Only those who have passed a homecheck and bring the pass form with them, will be able to meet the dogs. This is both to avoid disappointment and because the kennels are a working business and kennel hands can not spend time with people who are not in a position to take a dog. Thank you for your understanding.

To apply to rehome one of the Mutts dogs, please complete our rehoming application form.

Picture of Sky

Sky

Sky is a beautiful long coat medium/large sized Romanian Shepherd boy aged 6-7 years old. During his time with us at the kennels, he has shown to be reactive towards strangers but this is being worked on. Sky is getting better every day. He is so keen to please his handler and he picks up commands very quickly. He adores a cuddle from the people he knows and enjoys a good brush around his back and head. We are looking for an experienced owner who is patient and has is familiar with reactive dogs. Sky could live with another dog and prefers females. No children. Once he trusts you, he is very loyal and loving. Sky's ideal home would be with someone who has a lot of time, as he needs an owner who is willing to build his trust before and after taking him home and who will work closely with the staff, so that they can set out the perfect plan for helping him transition into home life. Sky would also like to be homed in a rural setting, as traffic can be a bit overwhelming at times and with the option of a kennel in the back garden for when visitors arrive.
Picture of Toots

Toots

When Tootsie first arrived, he was extremely scared of anyone and everything. Mutts have been working on him and so far in kennels, he is gaining confidence well. Now starting to walk on a lead. He can get worried with changes, so is looking for a quiet home and an owner with plenty of time and patience, who will come and sit with him to gain his trust. He is going to need gentle, slow progress. He needs someone who is willing to keep visiting him as he is wary of strangers - especially men. He would like to have no children or visiting children as adjusting to new adults will be a big enough challenge for him. Preferably someone who is experienced with nervous dogs.
Once he knows you, he is a lovely boy who really enjoys giving kisses and loves a little stroke.
Picture of Harry and Jeanie

Harry and Jeanie

Harry and Jeannie are still looking for their forever homes. Both are still shy but are improving everyday. Harry no longer backs up after taking treats and Jeannie knows how to ask for them. We would like to keep them together, as they support and comfort each other. When living in the kill shelter, all they had was each other to get them through that horrible time. Harry and Jeanie are only just over a year old, so are still babies really who are looking for a quiet and understanding home. Both are little dogs, probably terrier crosses. Both dogs could possibly go with children (12+) who are understanding of a dogs needs (to leave them alone when the dog doesn't want to be played with, to not scare or chase the dog etc...)
They could possibly live with other dogs as they have been mixed before and just wanted to play. No to cats or small furries.
We think they would make great agility or fly ball dogs, once they are ready. They just love to run and play. They will need a decent sized garden with 6ft fences and it will need to be very secure.
These two need time and somebody with patience, they have had a hard life so far and have a long way to recovery but it's time for them to get out and explore the world. So far in kennels, we know that they will need to be rehomed together and visited at the kennels, until they are comfortable with you. Both will also need lead work, which we can help with at the kennels.
They are not currently other animal tested.
Picture of Merlin

Merlin

Merlin is a lovely 8/9 year old Ridgeback x English Bull Terrier. (med/large)
So far at the kennels Merlin has shown himself to be a playful boy, who is looking for an active family to give him the love he deserves.
Despite Merlin's high-spirited personality he would also enjoy curling up on a sofa. Merlin loves to play with tennis balls and footballs but using the two toy game. Merlin doesn’t like to be left on his own for too long, his favourite pass time is ripping up his toys! |He has never lived with children and is a big lad and is not used to them at all, so we are looking for a home with no children. This boy would also like a home with no other animals.
Merlin is a loving cuddly boy once he knows you, he adores the attention of people he knows and trusts. He also listens very well to people he knows. Whilst being at the kennels, we have managed to tell him to wait for his dinner, walk nicely on a lead and of course perform his fantastic/ unique lay down. Merlin will be looking for a experienced home, due to some issues he has with meeting strangers and other dogs. Merlin didn't have a great start to life and due to this, we believe he hasn't had much socialising. He can be on high guard when meeting strangers, which is understandable.
Merlin has come on leaps and bounds from when he first came too us, just look at him say hello too everyone.
Merlin may also benefit from being crate trained.
This boy is in desperate need of a home too continue this training. Merlin when he is more confident with people will be joining the training classes at mutts, to further help with him behaviour problems but if you have experienced a dog like Merlin and would like to give him a home please message me. I can tell you more about this brilliant boy.
This handsome boy is really enjoying his time here with us but it's his time now to leave us and find a family.
Picture of Nala

Nala

Nala is about 4/5 years old. This beautiful dog is looking for an active family who will give her lots of long walks. So far in kennels, she is very sweet and very playful. She adores running on the paddock and finding all the toys she can. Nala will require a home where someone is home and can live with children aged 10 or over as she does like to jump up. She will soon get down when asked. Nala still awaits her perfect home, she has waited for over a year. Nala is a typical husky, so will be looking for someone who has knowledge or experience on the breed - she adores people.
No cats please. She would like to be the only dog in the home.
There must be a garden with at least a 6' fence or preferably higher.
Mutts are rehoming Nala on behalf of her current owners. They will board with us until a new home is found.
Picture of Mirka and Comba

Mirka and Comba

These two girls were rescued from appalling conditions in a foreign killing station. They are Mother and daughter. They arrived at Mutts very scared of everything and shied away from humans. Some months later, they have relaxed a little and so far in kennels, are learning to trust people and accept kindness. They would like to be rehomed together or with the company of another dog. They will need plenty of time and patience. They are still very reserved and have not tried being on the lead yet. They have only had each other for support, so will naturally be wary and shy. They can possibly be rehomed with dog experienced children.(14+)
All will need further work and will probably benefit from dog school.
They will make fantastic companions to the right home.
These girls need families who love working with their dogs and someone who is going to show them the world really isn't that bad of a place.
Any prospective new owners will need to visit the kennels and get acquainted with them gradually, to earn their trust. Patience is the key, letting them develop in their own time.
Picture of Ghost

Ghost

Ghost is a beautiful 4 year old large Lurcher boy. He is neutered. Ghost needs to be the only pet in the home. He is a lovely boy with people, adores attention and loves a biscuit. Ghost has a cheeky and fun personality. He does jump up and is quite a large dog, so will not be rehomed with small children.
Though Ghost is a diamond when it comes to people he can be ill mannered around other dogs, due to this we can not mix him with any other dogs. We do think Ghost would benefit from going to dog school to help him with this behaviour.
Picture of Darwin

Darwin

Darwin is a gorgeous Malinois x Sighthound. Darwin has only been with us a short time but this is what we know about him so far.
Despite Darwin's grey face he has lovely white teeth, so Darwin could range from 5-8 years old. In kennels he is a very friendly chap, so can live with children 6+ (due to his size.)
Darwin will need 6 foot or higher fences and he won't be able to be left in the garden alone. Darwin has not been tested with cats or dogs yet but this can be arranged if needed.
Picture of Muttley

Muttley

Muttley is an 8 year old Husky. Muttley is a beautiful boy. He is looking for an active family who will adore him, he's such a beautiful dog and has so much love to give. Muttley can live with another medium sized or larger dog.
No cats please. He can possibly live with older children who have been around dogs and know how to behave with them. 6' fences will be required for this boy.
Picture of Dorothy

Dorothy

Meet Dorothy she's about 3/4 years old. A cow print Lurcher who is good with other dogs but not small furries. She was in an awful state when came in to Mutts, so has been in foster care. She is now ready to go to her new home.
