Other dogs

Here are some of the dogs available for rehoming at other rescue centres who have asked us to help them.

Note – because these dogs are not at Mutts in Distress, we don’t know very much about them. We merely give other rescues some space to advertise their dogs. Please don’t phone Mutts in Distress, as our staff cannot answer questions about these dogs. Instead, call the number shown in each dog’s description.

Please – think carefully when deciding to rehome a dog.  Be aware that we cannot be sure how well any of the dogs will get on with any cats or other animals you may have at home.

Dogs are being let down by people who agree to take them, but then change their minds.

Reggie - not at Mutts

Breed: Dutch Herder
Age: 3
Sex: Male
Can he live with cats? Yes
Can he live with other dogs? Yes
Can he live with children? We are seeking a home for Reg with no young children. Homes with sensible older teenagers will be considered.

Reg is still searching for his perfect person, we are looking for a specific type of home for this beautiful boy, where he can continue to flourish with an owner who is familiar with intelligent working breeds.
Reggie has demonstrated time and time again that he prefers females, this isn’t to say he doesn’t like men, but he is wary of them and he will take time to come around. We aren’t sure exactly why he is this way but we have some ideas, however Reggie does know why and his new owners will need to be respectful of that, and not try to force him to be comfortable. As always we ask that any potential adopters are prepared for the highs and lows of having a rescue dog.
Reggie is an incredibly handsome, intelligent Dutch Herder, with any working breed, as he continues to get better he will require more mental stimulation as well as physical exercise than the average family dog. He is very easy to work with and train, and also very food driven. Reggie is immaculately clean in the house, and can indicate when he wants to go outside to the loo.
Things Reg has learnt:
Sit ?
Lay down ?
Stay/wait ?
Paw. ?

Due to his previous abandonment, Reggie suffers with separation anxiety. For this reason we are looking for a home where someone in the household can be at home with him, in time we see no reason why he can’t be left for short periods however this will take time and training, and we ask that his adopters go at his pace with this. Or a home where he could go to work with you, Reg really enjoys getting out but this would need to be a work setting that wouldn’t be overwhelming for him.
Ideally we would love to see Reggie in a home where in the future he can have a “job”. We feel the structure and routine will allow him to be more confident in himself, rather than solely relying on his handler for confidence.
Reggie was found in really tragic circumstances, and has definitely suffered a lot of abuse before he was left to starve to death, in a house with no way of getting out. He was found during a police raid, along with another dog who had sadly died before they were found, his body score was 2/9. Unfortunately Reggie had started to eat his own tail and has had to have a lot of his tail amputated.
Despite this Reggie is the most loving and affectionate boy, he forms really deep bonds with people and is desperate to please. He is amazing with other dogs of all sizes, he is also fine to live with cats. He has seen other small mammals and has shown gentle curiosity. He will need a secure garden in which he can sunbathe.
Reggie is neutered.
If you are seriously interested in Reggie, please fill out one of our forms and a member of the team will be in touch to further discuss Reggie and his needs. At this stage Reggie really requires stability and commitment, and homes will need to be home checked prior to meeting Reggie, and that things like holidays, days out etc are taken into consideration before applying. Angus the Gt Dane is 5 years old. He is looking for an experienced home.
He is being rehomed due to family illness.
Angus is reactive to male dogs but is usually fine with females.
He has previously lived with a female dog without problems.
Angus is house trained and lead trained but will not live with cats. He apparently has great recall.
The owner says :
Dog reactive when out for walks but I believe with socialisation and training this could be corrected.
He lives with three children and has been around babies/ small children his whole life.
I believe he would do better in a child/pet free house. As he prefers a quiet environment. He is not neutered.
Hasn’t been to the vets since pre Covid. I believe he had his puppy vaccinations but nothing since.
Good on lead knows not to walk in front or pull but can be bossy with new people. Walks with a head harness on short lead.
Recall is perfect.
Located in Leeds could transport up to an hour away.
If interested in rehoming Angus and wanting more information, please call 07379 561321.
