Supporters of Mutts in Distress, the animal sanctuary in Little Hallingbury, have raised nearly £2,000 from a sponsored walk. The money, £1,605 pledged and at least a further £255 to add once sponsorship money has been collected, will go towards paying outstanding vet bills of £16,000. Some 43 people, many with their dogs, joined the fund-raisers yesterday (Sunday, September 20) by walking 3k around Harlow Common. Walk organiser Kerry Snooks said: “It was a lot of fun and very successful.” Kerry, who lives in Bush Fair, Harlow, was there with her rescue dog Rocco. She takes Rocco to dog training classes at Mutts in Distress and when she discovered the sanctuary desperately needed money to pay mounting vet bills she decided to do what she could to raise some money.

hi Pat, here’s a message from Molly and Sophie.
A big thank you for all you do. We came to Mum and Dad on May 2014 and May 2015. We like going out in the car. Sophie sleeps with my Dad but he says I snore but I do like my cuddles. Molly sleeps with Mum but she says that Molly takes up all the bed.

Arthur settled in

Arthur settled in

Hi Stuart,

I hope you are keeping well. You came to visit us back in October to see how Arthur was getting on and I just wanted to send you some photos and let you know how he is doing.

He is such a great dog and has become a huge part of our family. He has made a few friends and even got himself a girlfriend – The biggest German Shepherd you have ever seen!! We have a dog walker that comes at lunch time and takes him out every day for half an hour with his best friend Fred (The Pug next door.) He also spends every Friday with my Dad – Arthur is now regular visitor at Nationwide building society and the local pub.

I just wanted to thank you and everyone at Mutts for making it possible for us to have Arthur. He is our world and we adore him!

Bushy the therapy dog

We adopted Bushy on 23rd March 2014 after deciding it was the right time to get a dog now that we had taken early retirement and the kids had flown the nest.  A home check was completed by Denise Ings and as it was our first dog, Denise recommended a small dog because if all else fails ‘you could always pick him up!’
I fell in love with Bushy as soon as I saw him on your website and I knew he was the dog for me.  My husband wanted a larger dog but he could see how smitten I was with Bushy so he came home with us.
Bushy is now a healthy 3 year old Yorkshire Terrier/Chihuahua cross but 15 months ago it was a very different story.
He was picked up having been out on the street, he was extremely distressed and weighed just 2.5 kilos. I doubt he would have survived much longer if he wasn’t found by a member of the public and given a second chance by Mutts in Distress.
Since he has been with us, he has received a huge amount of love, care and attention and put on weight. He is now a healthy 4.1 kilos and the vet says that he is in perfect health after a very shaky start.  He is a very settled, sociable dog, full of life and fun.  He has two walks a day and loves being outside, except when its raining!
He goes to dog training classes every week, has tried Agility but his biggest achievement is that he recently become a Pets As Therapy Dog.  It was Denise who suggested it initially as he is so good with people.  He loves all the fuss and attention he gets when we visit a couple of Sheltered Housing complexes in Chelmsford.  One is for disabled adults and the other for the elderly.  They all adore him and many want to keep him and the staff want to take him home.  He is very gentle when taking treats and they love that they can stroke and pet him.  He now brings joy to many people lives, not just our own.
Bushy is a testament to Mutts in Distress for saving him and the power of a loving new home can give to a dog.

Hi Mutts,
Kai, one of the Spanish pups, has settled down well with us. He is a lively, chap with a fine set of teeth
and a desire to chew almost anything, shoes, slippers, a bible etc. He is  meeting other dogs and people well,
thanks to dog training classes. (thanks Pat) He seems to like us and our busy household. Kai is growing well, over
20Kgs  now and is looking pretty good. He is a great addition to our family.

Dear Mutts in Distress,
I must say that Maverick is settled in very well here.
When we got him home, he got out of the car and didn’t pull hard at all, and neither has he since.
He has a brilliant temperament and has to follow me wherever I go! He seems to have bonded with me from the beginning.
Maverick is loving the sea air and enjoying the beach. At the moment, he is sat next to me and looking out of the balcony
window and watching the sea and the world go by.
He is such a lovely boy – Thank you all at Mutts.

Dear Mutts,

Here I am with my new friend Hugo, who is only 12wks old. He has been for a few play dates when his mum is at work. He is a young rascal but I’m such a lovely boy, I’m very gentle with him and  I am teaching him how to respect his elders and some good manners. I am a gentle giant and my Mum loves me to bits.

Dear All at Mutts in Distress,
Just wanted to let you know that Beau is doing just fine in Benfleet, mixing in well with all the other dogs that
come in for boarding and daycare and both he and Lola adore each other.  He is a super happy little chappy and a pleasure to have here.
He is eating well at set meal times now, walking well on lead with all the others, sleeping happily downstairs and very loving.
